Shopify does support Royal Mail, and the support is narrower than the word suggests. It "ships only domestically within the United Kingdom and doesn't support international destinations", you must have a fulfillment location based in the UK to buy the labels, the services available are the tracked tiers with or without a signature, and the maximum weight is twenty kilograms. No untracked economy classes, no Parcelforce, nothing crossing a border.

There is also an edge case inside "the UK" that catches people out. Since the Windsor Framework took effect, shipments from Great Britain to Northern Ireland cannot use Shopify's carrier accounts at all. If you send parcels that way, the native route is closed regardless of everything above.

Every gap in that list is what this grid sells, and it sells it two different ways. One group pushes your orders into Royal Mail's own Click and Drop portal, where you buy postage and print, then syncs dispatch and tracking back. The other quotes Royal Mail rates at your checkout, which needs the Carrier Service API and therefore Advanced or higher. Same carrier, two unrelated products, and Shopify files them in two different categories.

Which services you actually sell: If you ship untracked first or second class, or use Parcelforce for anything heavy, the native integration will not carry it. Get the service list from the vendor in writing and match it against a month of your real dispatches, not against the tiers you think you use.
Anything crossing a border: International and Northern Ireland are the two places the native route stops. Ask specifically about customs paperwork: which declaration forms are produced, where commodity codes and values come from, and whether they reach the label automatically or need typing in.
Whose postage account: A Royal Mail business account with negotiated rates behaves differently from paying retail through a portal. Ask which the app expects, whether your own account credentials are used, and what happens to your pricing if you move accounts later.
Tracking is the easy part: Royal Mail is on Shopify's tracking company list, which builds the clickable link from the number by itself. So do not pay extra for tracking links. Judge these on whether dispatch status comes back onto the order without anyone re-keying it.
