General

What is Rankbase?

Rankbase is a Shopify App Store optimization and keyword ranking analytics platform built for Shopify app developers. It connects to your Google Analytics 4 property and analyzes how users discover your app through App Store search. Rankbase tracks keyword positions, analyzes install click data, and monitors community forums for relevant posts. It was built by a Shopify app developer with 10+ years of experience.

Who is Rankbase for?

Rankbase is built for Shopify app developers who already have an app listed on the Shopify App Store and want to improve their app's visibility and installs. It works best for apps that already have some existing traffic, since the analytics require Google Analytics 4 data to generate keyword reports. Rankbase is not a general SEO tool and does not work with websites or other app stores.

What makes Rankbase different from general SEO tools?

General SEO tools like Ahrefs, SEMrush, and Moz are designed for website search engine optimization. They do not track Shopify App Store search rankings. Rankbase is purpose-built for the Shopify App Store ecosystem. It tracks your app's position in Shopify's own search results, analyzes install click data from your Google Analytics 4 property, and provides optimization suggestions specific to App Store listings. No other tool focuses exclusively on Shopify App Store keyword ranking analytics.

How does Rankbase get its data?

Rankbase connects to your Google Analytics 4 property using OAuth (read-only access). When someone searches the Shopify App Store and visits your listing, Shopify sends search query data to your GA4 property. Rankbase reads this data, processes it into keyword reports with position tracking, and presents it in the dashboard. For keyword positions, Rankbase queries the Shopify App Store search results directly to determine where your app ranks for each keyword.

Features and Metrics

What is "Potential Score"?

The Potential Score is a proprietary algorithm that identifies keywords with the highest growth opportunity. It is calculated based on your current position for a specific keyword and the number of install clicks you receive from it. If you are getting install clicks while ranked in lower positions, the Potential Score will be high because moving to a higher position would likely increase your installs significantly. Keywords with a Potential Score below 10 may not represent meaningful opportunities. The keyword list is sorted by Potential Score by default so you can focus on keywords with the highest upside first. Learn more in the Potential Score documentation.

What does "install click" mean?

An "install click" means someone clicked the install button on your app listing page in the Shopify App Store. This is different from an impression (someone saw your app in search results) or a page view (someone visited your listing page). An install click does not guarantee the app was actually installed, but it represents clear purchase intent from a real user.

Why does Rankbase focus on install clicks instead of impressions?

Rankbase focuses on install clicks because they represent genuine user interest. The number of impressions and page views includes significant bot traffic, which creates noise in your data. When someone clicks the install button, they are showing real intent to use your app. By focusing on install clicks, Rankbase eliminates noise and helps you focus on the metrics that actually matter for growing your app business.

How is the latest position calculated?

The latest position is calculated based on the most recent click for the most dominant locale for each keyword. For example, if you received 4 install clicks from the USA (en) locale where your position is 2, and 1 install click from the Spanish locale where your position is 6, your latest position will show as 2 because the English (US) locale is dominant for that keyword. You can still view position details for all locales in the detailed keyword view.

What is the App Listing Changelog?

The App Listing Changelog tracks changes to your Shopify app listing over time. Whenever your listing details change (title, description, pricing, screenshots), the changelog records what changed and when it changed. This helps you correlate listing updates with changes in your keyword positions. You can access the changelog from your app's navigation menu.

How do Community Forum Notifications work?

Rankbase monitors the Shopify Community forums for posts that mention keywords related to your apps. When someone posts a question or discussion that matches your tracked keywords, you receive a notification via email or Slack. This helps you discover potential users who are actively looking for solutions your app provides.

Can I track multiple apps?

Yes. The Growth plan ($49/month) lets you track up to 5 Shopify apps. The Business plan ($99/month) lets you track up to 20 apps. Each app needs its own Google Analytics 4 property connected to get keyword data.

Setup and Technical

How do I set up Google Analytics for my Shopify app?

You need a Google Analytics 4 property connected to your Shopify app listing. For a detailed, visual step-by-step guide, read this blog post: How to Set Up Google Analytics for a Shopify App. Once GA4 is set up, go to your app settings in Rankbase, click "Connect Google Analytics," sign in with your Google account, and select the correct property. See the GA4 setup documentation for detailed steps.

I can not see any data for my app in the dashboard. What should I do?

Make sure you connected the correct Google Analytics account in your app settings. The GA4 property should be the same one used in your Shopify App Store listing. Double-check that you selected the right property from the dropdown. You can disconnect the existing account and connect the correct one from your app's settings page.

How long does it take to see data after connecting Google Analytics 4?

Rankbase begins processing your GA4 data as soon as you connect. You should see keyword data within a few hours if your app already has traffic. If your app is new or has very little traffic, it may take longer to accumulate enough data for meaningful reports. Rankbase generates daily position reports, so check back the next day for updated data.

Does Rankbase work with Universal Analytics (GA3)?

No. Rankbase only supports Google Analytics 4 (GA4). Universal Analytics (GA3) was deprecated by Google in July 2023. If you are still using Universal Analytics, you need to upgrade to GA4 before connecting to Rankbase.

What data does Rankbase access from my Google Analytics?

Rankbase requests read-only access to your Google Analytics 4 property. It reads search query data that Shopify sends to your GA4 property when users search the App Store and interact with your listing. Rankbase does not modify any of your analytics data and does not access other data in your Google account.

Pricing and Billing

How much does Rankbase cost?

Rankbase offers two plans. The Growth plan costs $49 per month and lets you track up to 5 Shopify apps. The Business plan costs $99 per month and lets you track up to 20 apps. Both plans include all features: keyword tracking, community forum notifications, Slack integration, API access, CSV export, and team collaboration.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. Rankbase offers a free trial with no credit card required. You can explore all features during the trial period before deciding to subscribe.

Can I invite team members?

Yes. Both the Growth and Business plans support team collaboration. You can invite team members from the Team page in your dashboard. Team members share access to all apps and data within the team. The team owner manages billing and can invite or remove members.

API

Does Rankbase have an API?

Yes. Rankbase provides a REST API for programmatic access to your keyword ranking data. You can use the API to build custom dashboards, automate reporting, feed data into spreadsheets, or integrate keyword insights into your own tools and workflows. API access is included in both the Growth and Business plans.

What data can I access through the API?

The API provides access to keyword ranking data including search keywords, positions, dates, locales, countries, install click data, and importance scoring. You can filter by date range, search type (organic or paid), and whether keywords led to install clicks. For complete API documentation, visit the API Documentation page.
