Shopify collects the Mexican fields and does nothing with them. Its additional tax fields list Mexico twice: a store fulfilling from outside Mexico asks only for the RFC, while a store whose billing country is Mexico asks for the RFC, the régimen fiscal and the uso de CFDI. Then it stops. In Shopify's own words the fields are not mandatory, you must issue an invoice to your customer, and a banner is displayed on the order details page. Capture and a reminder. No invoice.

The step nothing on Shopify can perform is the stamp. A CFDI is a legal invoice only after an authorised certification provider, the PAC, processes it: SAT defines that provider as the legal entity authorised to generate and process receipts for tax purposes by electronic means. Every app on this page is either a PAC or sits in front of one, and oddly none of the listings say so.

One more trap sits inside the fields Shopify does collect. SAT says the uso de CFDI must match the recipient's own tax regime. Shopify captures both as values a customer types, with nothing checking that the combination is valid, so a mismatched pair produces an invoice the recipient cannot use and a cancellation to issue.

What to look for in a Cfdi app

Who stamps, and under whose certificate: Ask which PAC the app uses, whether you need your own agreement with them, and what happens to your invoices if that relationship ends. Ask too how your CSD certificate is stored and renewed, since it is the credential that signs everything.
Where the customer fills it in: Most of these offer self-invoicing: a page after checkout or in the customer account where the buyer enters their own fiscal details. That is usually better than collecting at checkout, because the data is theirs to get right. Look at what that page validates before it submits.
Regime and use code handling: Given that the pair must match, ask whether the app validates the combination against SAT rules or simply forwards what was typed. The difference shows up as rejections you have to chase, weeks later.
Cancellations and credit notes: An invoice you cannot cancel correctly is worse than one you never issued. Check the app handles cancellation with the reason codes SAT expects, produces credit notes, and tells you when a cancellation is rejected or left pending the recipient's approval.
The product keys nobody wants to fill in: Every line needs a SAT product key and unit key. Ask how they are assigned: a default applied to everything is quick and wrong, a per-product mapping is correct and slow. Find out where those values live so you own them.
Not a general invoicing app: Branded PDFs, sequential numbering and emailed receipts appear all over the App Store and none of that is a CFDI. If a listing does not name SAT, the stamp and a certification provider, it is not solving this problem, whatever the invoice template looks like.
