Validation, or just a text box: Only some of these actually check a number against the European VIES service before exempting anybody. The rest collect it and trust it. Since the field on the Shopify side is unchecked either way, real-time validation is the thing worth paying for, and it is worth asking what happens when VIES is down.
What the customer sees before they log in: Dual pricing is mostly about the anonymous visitor: a trade buyer wants the net price, a consumer must see the gross one, and your market may require the second by law. Check where the toggle appears, whether the choice is remembered, and what the collection page shows before anyone has chosen.
