Two unrelated products answer this search. Most of the grid is private-label and dropship suppliers who will put your brand on their formulations, often with no minimum order and samples before you commit. The rest are try-on widgets that track a face through the camera and paint a shade onto it. Nobody is doing both, so pick the problem first.

Shopify's own product taxonomy is unusually thoughtful about makeup and then stops short. Makeup categories carry both a generic colour attribute and a separate makeup shade attribute with its own vocabulary, plus a cosmetic finish attribute covering matte, dewy, satin and the rest, while lip products swap shade for an opacity attribute. That is real structure. Ingredients are where it thins out: skin care gets an active ingredient picklist and an origin field that only says natural, synthetic or other, and the generic ingredients attribute hangs off the parent cosmetics node rather than makeup or skin care. Nothing native holds a full formulation list.

The constraint that actually bites is older and simpler. A product can specify a maximum of three options. A wide shade range fills one, and then size and finish want the other two, and undertone or skin type has nowhere to go. The variant ceiling is not the problem here, it rose a long way; the three-option rule is.

What to look for in a Skincare app

Supplier or try-on
These are separate purchases with separate risks. A supplier decides your margin, your lead time and your packaging. A try-on widget decides how a shade page converts. Read the listing carefully, because the keyword mixes them and the app cards look similar.
What a sample really costs
If you are choosing a supplier, the sample and mockup step is the part worth interrogating: what it costs, how long it takes, whether packaging artwork is included, and what happens when you want a change. Everything after that is logistics.
How shades are modelled
With three option slots total, ask the vendor how they expect you to structure a forty-shade line that also has two sizes. Metafields carrying shade and finish, with options reserved for what the customer picks, is usually the workable answer, and it changes how your filters and feeds behave.
Where the ingredient list lives
Since Shopify has no field for a formulation, it will end up in the description or in a metafield you define. Decide which before you import a catalog, because moving thousands of ingredient lists later is miserable and regulators in several markets expect them to be present and accurate.
Try-on is not Shopify AR
Shopify's native augmented reality places a 3D model from the product's media into a room. Shade try-on is live face tracking, an entirely different technique these apps bring themselves. Test it on real faces across skin tones and lighting, on a mid-range phone, before you believe a demo video.
Where the catalog data comes from
A supplier that hands you products also hands you their titles, images and descriptions, which every other store using them also has. Ask what you are allowed to change and whether the images are exclusive, since identical listings are the default failure mode of this model.

What does the Built for Shopify badge mean?

Built for Shopify
Built for Shopify is the highest level of recognition Shopify awards an app. To earn the badge, an app must meet Shopify's standards for safety, performance, ease of use, and proven usefulness: it cannot slow down the admin, storefront, or checkout, must integrate seamlessly into the Shopify admin, and must demonstrate quality through installs, reviews, and ratings over time. When comparing similar apps, preferring ones with the badge is a safe default. Learn more about the Built for Shopify badge →

Built by Craftshift

Rankbase is made by Craftshift, a Shopify Partner building apps for product images, variants, and bulk catalog work. We built Rankbase to track the App Store rankings of our own apps first, then opened it to other developers, and this directory grew out of that work. The rankings on these pages are Shopify's own organic search results; we never edit them, including for our own apps.
