Shopify Scripts is gone. Not deprecated in the sense of discouraged, but switched off: any script still published on a store was deactivated, and the ability to edit or publish new ones ended before that. If you arrived here looking for the Ruby script editor, that is the answer, and it is worth noting that several listings in this category still describe the deprecation in the future tense.

What replaced it is Functions: small programs compiled to WebAssembly that Shopify runs on its own infrastructure, with a separate API for discounts, for delivery customisation, for payment customisation, for transforming a cart, for validating a checkout and a few more besides. Each store may hold a limited number of each kind, and each one runs inside fixed size and memory budgets. The apps here exist so that you do not have to write Rust to get one, which is a perfectly good business, and worth seeing clearly for what it is: a generator that produces a Function you then own and operate.
