Dynamic pricing on Shopify does not mean what it means elsewhere. A variant carries one price, a bare Money value in the shop currency, with no rule engine behind it, and a sale is simply a compare-at price set higher than the price. So nothing computes a number when a shopper loads the page. Every app here writes a new value into that field and waits.

The one interface that could reprice live is closed to almost everyone. Cart Transform can override a line's price, title or image, but only development stores and Plus stores may use apps with those operations, and Cart Transform is not on Shopify's list of functions allowed to make network calls, so it could not consult a competitor feed even if you were on Plus. Repricing is therefore a scheduled write, and the interval is the product.

Shopify's own answer is deliberately the opposite. Smart Pricing "uses machine learning to generate price tips" and the documentation is explicit that it "doesn't adjust your product prices in real time for customers based on demand" and that "any pricing changes are applied by you". Free advice you act on, rather than an autopilot. Worth trying before you buy an autopilot.

Two products under one name: Half this grid watches competitors and reprices continuously. The other half runs scheduled rule-based bulk edits with no competitor data at all. The second is a bulk editor with a calendar and should be priced like one, so work out which you are reading.
Where competitor prices come from: If matching is the point, the match is everything. Ask how products are paired across sites, what happens when a competitor changes a title, how often the crawl runs, and how many of your SKUs it can actually find. A tool that matches sixty per cent of your catalog is making decisions about the other forty on no data.
Floors, ceilings and a stop button: Automated repricing writes directly to your live prices. Insist on a hard floor per product or per margin, a ceiling, a rate limit on how far a price may move in a day, and a way to freeze everything at once. Then test the stop button before you trust the automation.
Compare-at, and what customers see: Since a sale badge is just compare-at above price, ask what the app does to that field. An app that raises compare-at to manufacture a discount is creating a problem, not a promotion.
The EU price-history rule: In the EU a reduction must show the lowest price charged in the previous thirty days, and Shopify keeps no price log: its own guidance has you enter that number by hand. Frequent automated changes make that obligation much harder, so if you sell into the EU, decide how the two will coexist before you switch anything on.
What it does to your catalog: Bulk price updates go product by product through the API, so ask how long a full pass takes at your catalog size, what happens if it fails halfway, and whether there is a snapshot you can roll back to. A history you can restore is worth more than any dashboard.
