Two things are worth establishing before anything on this page gets installed. Shopify already serves these files. Its documentation says Shopify manages an agents file by default for every store and that for most stores the managed file is all you need, with the llms.txt and full variants alongside it. Nothing has to be generated for the file to exist.

And the promise attached to the file is unconfirmed. It began as a proposal on llmstxt.org, not a standard any search or AI company adopted, and no major AI company has published confirmation that it reads third-party llms.txt files. Asked directly whether Google publishing its own such files amounted to endorsement, a Google search advocate answered plainly that it did not. What the AI companies do document is their crawlers: OpenAI, Anthropic and Google each publish the user agent names you control through robots.txt, and none of those pages mention llms.txt.

It is also worth knowing what the native file actually contains, because it is not marketing copy. It is protocol plumbing: machine endpoints, read-only browsing URLs for products and collections, your policies, rendered from a template with a deliberately narrow set of Liquid objects. So the honest thing an app in this category can sell is control over that content, not the file's existence and not a ranking.

What to look for in a Perplexity app

Check what your store already serves: Open the paths on your own domain before you compare anything. If the managed file is there and says what you would have said, you have finished this task without installing anything.
What the app claims to influence: Generating a file is not a difficulty. Being cited by an assistant is a claim nobody can currently substantiate. Read the listing for which of those two it is promising, and treat visibility scores and citation counts as the vendor's own measurements.
Whether it touches robots.txt: Access for AI crawlers is decided in robots.txt, using agent names the AI companies publish themselves. That is a real lever with real consequences in both directions. If an app edits it, you want to see the change and keep the ability to undo it.
