Updated September 8, 2026 · Organic rankingShopify has a one-time code sign-in, and it is not this one. The newer customer accounts are passwordless: the shopper enters an email address and receives a six-digit verification code, no password required. The word phone does not appear in that flow. So a store whose customers think of their phone number as their identity, which is most of India and much of the Gulf, has a gap the platform does not fill.
It is a deeper gap than it looks, and worth understanding before comparing features. Shopify's session is keyed to email: an outside identity provider has to plug in through OIDC, that is limited to the top plan, and even then Shopify identifies the customer from the email and subject claims in the token. There is no phone claim. So no app on this page can make a phone number the login itself. What they do instead is intercept earlier, verify the number by text, and attach it to a customer record, where the phone field is unique and in international format, so the same number cannot belong to two customers.
