Nothing in a Shopify order records who referred it. The two fields that sound as though they might, the landing page and the referring site, describe the session rather than a person, and neither carries an identity that survives. Ask what it does concretely: refuse the commission, alert you, rotate the code? "Fraud protection" as a bullet point tells you the vendor knows the problem exists, not that they have solved it.
How the money actually leaves: Most of these pay affiliates through a third-party payment service you connect yourself, which means another account, another balance to keep funded and another set of fees. Shopify's own option instead settles through your Shopify bill. Neither is better, but they are very different to operate, so decide which one your bookkeeping wants.
